(84 & 82 days old). B8 woke up all alone this a.m.; perched on the right rail at 5:59:53am, looking a little lost & lonely; tucked his head back in for a few more Zzzzzzzz's. By 6:20, he was perched on the back rail; P flies past bottom right of the nest 06:32:55; 6:36 found B8 on the Cam pole; B8 was out on a limb at 7:35; D in BD w/fish 7:47:52; B89 to nest 7:48:22, D to LB 7:48:30 & out 7:49:09; B8 had mantled nicely & stood on the fish, but really didn't know what to do with it; by 8:10, B8 was eating; B9 in BD 8:20:30 and steals the fish, B8 moves over to the right rail; B8 steals some of the fish 8:39, so now they're both dining; B9 is finished by 8:42 & goes to LB 8:44:13; 10:42 finds both kiddos resting side-by-side. For the most part, the B's took it easy for most of the day; B9 takes off circa 5:15 (ApCam 54:47 per sela); M in BD w/squirrel 6:08:44, she & B8 dine together; ground crew reports that B9 is perched in a tree (not really visible) behind the nest tree; M to LB/out 7:16:37. As of 7:30pm, Bel reports that "Mom is perched two trees over, to the right and behind, the nest tree. B9 is perched one tree further away." Dad flew in and picked a high perch between Mom & B9 at 8:15pm.

April 30, 2017 (Sunday)

(78 & 76 days old). Cam 1 reset 3:25:14. Per TNTalons: B's slept side-by-side in nest from cam reset until 6:19:46 when B-right (B8?) got up for a left wing stretch which caused B-left (B9) to get up, too; B9 wing flaps 6:20:04; looked like both had little PS's 6:20:28; B8 PS out back rail 6:21:27; B9 wingercizes 6:22:02, steps up to Y-nook 6:22:18; B8 wingercizes 6:22:39; B9 wing flaps to LB 6:25:05, then flaps to nest & back, then to right rail; B8 is perched on RB by 6:27:46; B9 to LB 6:29:36; IR light off 6:37:15; B9 up Cam pole 6:43:35, to nest 6:44:46, back to Cam pole, to LB 6:45:33 moves up & out of view; B's all over for the next 15 minutes; B9 to nest 6:58:31 where she lifts her left leg to grab a big stick w/her talon & then chews on it, then tries to drag it around (it actually looks like her talon is stuck) 6:59:04, she continues to wrestle/bite the stick; B8 to nest 6:59:55 to help, the stick ends up on the back rail; B's carry on w/their antics & by 7:46:30, B8 is resting & B9 is out on a limb. Per BEL (ground report): I'm not sure what time is showing on the Camera now but about 8:55 AM a great blue heron flew over and then actually circled the nest a couple of times before landing in a tree not too far behind the nest. Dad brought in some kind of mangled mess (Cam 1 12:59:51), then mom brought in a fish (Cam 1 1:13:10pm). Dad flew toward the river (Cam 1 1:13:34). When mom left (1:52:35) she perched for a few minutes, and then she headed off to soar over the pastures and then for Garden Lakes. Note: B9 jumps to new branch (on left side of nest) 12:38:36pm (I saw it from the ground & looked up time on dvr.) Per JaniBop: cams went down 7:11:22pm.

*When Dad left the nest his morning, he went to their favorite perch & stayed there for 2 or 2 1/2 hours before he flew off toward the river. When Mom left the first time, she went to the perch for 10 or 15 mins & then flew off toward G/L after circling the fields for a while. After Mom's 2nd visit, she went to the mud hole on the ground behind the nest. She stayed there, taking occasional drinks of water, for about 20 mins or so then flew to perch in a pine next to their favorite perch tree. She was still there when we left to go get dinner.

Per BEL-ground observation: M flies to fav perch, preens, then heads toward Garden Lakes at 8:00am. M returns to fav perch at 8:41am, flies off again after just a few minutes; Cam 1 reset 11:54am; M flies in to land on her favorite perch around 12:40; she leaves area around 12:46pm without going to nest (D went to the LB & flapped his wings when she came in); D is bothered by a turkey vulture that flies over the nest & goes to the LB at 2:27pm (Cam1 2:27:55), he goes back to the nest after a few minutes; M returns to the nest area, flies past the nest & lands on her perch at 2:44pm…D called to her when she came in & then on cam 1…D to LB 2:46:32; D back to nest 2:47:58 (ground observation: M gave D "the eye" and he meekly goes back to the nest & lays on the eggs); D alerts 2:53:07pm (ground observation: a sub adult eagle flew through the nest area, between the nest & where Mom was perched, D alerted while M stayed calm & perched); S/C#2-D gets up 3:41:52pm; D to LB 3:43:10; D out 3:43:26; M in BD 3:43:50pm; M rolls eggs, fluffs the fluff then settles down on the eggs 3:44:59-3:46:30pm; ground observation: D in BD w/fluff right after dark 6:15pm (Cam 1 6:16:45); D out BD 6:18:16pm; ground observation, it was too dark to see where he flew too, but I assume it was in a tree near the nest (didn't see him fly across the open area near nest). S/C#1-D in to LB 7:52:08am; M stands up, chattering softly 7:52:11am; M out BD 7:52:57; D to nest 7:53:01; D rolls eggs & settles down on them 7:53:10; Ground observation-Mom flew to perch 3 trees behind the nest tree, she stayed about 10 minutes and then flew off toward the river; after a 6 1/2 hour break from her nest duty…S/C#2-D sees M and gets up 2:24:36pm; D goes to LB 2:24:41; D chatters at M (asking where's she's been for so long?) 2:24:45pm; D out 2:25:33pm; ground observation-D meets M mid-air & circles, soars and chastises her for being gone so long; can hear some of their mid-air chatter on cam 1 at 2:26:30pm; M in BD 2:26:38pm; M rolls eggs 2:27:45 then lays down to assume her incubation duty; ground observation-Dad soared for a while longer & then left the area, he was gone until 6:09pm when he returned to land in the tree just to the right of the nest tree. Rocky bothers Mom & earns a wing slap Cam1-07:40:02pm, Cam2-19:37:22.

Video: B6, The Homebody 

B6 spent the night on the tree behind the nest and stretches at 6:17pm; has a PS and then takes off to another branch and then comes back to the same spot (104:56:29); does some fluffing at 6:18; turns around on the branch at 6:20. Another PS and then takes off to another branch behind Cam2; takes off at 6:22am. The Berry chatters and viewers waited patiently throughout the day for just one more glimpse of the family; and then surprisingly, B6, the little homebody, showed up before dark.

It was a great eagle season this year, good luck and Godspeed B6 and B7, Mom and Dad Berry,

and all my eagleholic friends! Leaving Berry College now,the eagles are off somewhere doing eagle things!

Bel's Must See Live Video: Fledge! Fledge!

B6 fledges around 11:04 a.m. Dad brings in a fish at 3:19 p.m., and B7 gets it all since B6 was still out on his/her adventure. Dad moves around quite a bit in the nest and a couple of the branches seemingly looking for B6. He leaves after about 10 minutes. B6 returns to the nest at 4:25 p.m.; he first went to a low branch then up into the nest. Dad comes back at 5:09 p.m. with some kind of rodent, perhaps a squirrel. B6 gets the rodent. Dad leaves a couple of minutes later. It was heartwarming to have both of the B's in the nest together again.

Bel's Must See Live Video: B7's Excellent Adventure

Eaglet goes from a branch to the nest 12:59am, both settle down at 1:01am; kiddos wake up 6:14; B7 to the left branch 6:16am then back and forth to cam branch several times 6:35am, 6:39am, 6:41am, and 6:43am. B6 digs in nest 6:43. B7 to cam branch/chewing on cam 6:47am, to cam branch again 8:19am close to cam, and again to cam branch 8:48am. Mom comes in the front door with fish 12:26pm, Mom to left branch and out 12:38pm. B6 almost missed a landing, which was viewable on the Approach Cam. B7 lifts off from nest 4:16pm and then drops down to branch within view of Approach Cam.

Bel's Must See Live Video: Eager Eaglet

Cam reset in the wee hours of the morning 1:24am. A lot of family vocalization starts at 2:18 a.m. with clucks, squees, and chatter. B7 highly upset and clucking, apparently not knowing what is going on, and neither do we. We can only speculate that an owl was around, or perhaps Mom made an unexpected visit to the tree throwing the kids off guard. Fortunately, after about 15 minutes, things calmed down.

Nap Time

You could see Mom and the kids on different branches as dawn approached. One of the kids, possibly B6, was having a time going from branch to branch, including the bouncy branch. Mom flew off the nest tree.

Dad in back door with fish 7:13, out quickly. B6? mantles, eats and is finished by 7:29. Dad brings in another fish at 7:46, he leaves a minute later. A little nut thrasher is seen on the nest at 7:47. At 8:38 a.m., B7 lifts up off the nest with the fish in his talons, then decides to eat it at 8:40. At 9:02, the nut thrasher starts to come down the back branch towards B6. The nut thrasher comes onto the nest at 9:29am to steal a feather while B6 was watching.

B7 right up to cam 12:04; B7 puts on a show on left branch 12:07.

Wingercising

B7 wingercising and playing around on upper left Y branch and comes close to an accidental fludge at 1:27. A bird flies past the nest. 

Dad in back door 2:20 with ufo, B7 gets it. Dad to RB 2:20, out 2:21. B6 goes in for the steal 2:40.

B6 "hugs" B7 during nap time 5:18pm. 

Bel was at the nest today and reported that: "M came in without going to the nest & stayed on her favorite perch for 2 or 3 hours, at 8:25 she went to a tree or two behind the nest to perch, at 8:30 dad came in without going to the nest & landed on Mom's fav perch. They were both still there when I left (almost dark)."

4/16 - Chatters, Photographers, and lots of B3 Branch Buddies gathered at the nest today to enjoy the eagles and pay tribute to our friend, Rob. It was a warm and wonderful day, and I'm sure it's safe to say a good time was had by all.

Daily activities of our eagle family included Mom coming in the back door with a squirrel and B6 trying to eat it. After some feeble attempts, B6 looks to Mom for help, and she, of course, obliges and feeds both of the kids. B7 casts a pellet. Mom left and was back within 10 minutes with another squirrel, and 10 minutes later Dad arrives with a fish. Mom chattered at Dad like crazy, and he didn't stick around too long. Mom then feeds the kid fish. Early afternoon found the kids trying to move a stick. Mom brings in a fish at 4:38 p.m. She eats some herself and then feeds the kids, and then she gulps down the last of the fish. She took off out the back door at 5:17. Late evening found the kids basking in the sunlight. One resting and the other preening. Mom comes home with some grass at 8:31 and everyone settles in for the night. Video: Nest Day

4/17 - It was a travel day for many as people headed home after the wonderful week-end; some putting off their departure until the last possible minute. Bel's Nest Log reflects Mom left the nest and went to the left branch at 1:20 a.m., leaving the kids plenty of room to sleep. She took off in the morning at 6:56, and Jani reported that Mom came in the back door with fish at 11:00 a.m. D arrived about 15 minutes later with his own fish and left a couple minutes later. Mom took off at 1:12 p.m., and came back at 6:31 p.m. with another fish. She took off out the back door at 6:43 p.m., only to return at 7:22 p.m. with yet another fish! She left at 7:30 p.m.

4/18 - Mom was in the tree until 1:46 a.m., at which point she joined the kids in the nest for several minutes. She went to the left branch at 1:53 a.m. where she stayed until leaving for the morning at 6:43 a.m. Dad flew in the front door with a small fish at 9:38 a.m., and left quickly, leaving the kids to fend for themselves with the fish. At 12:46 p.m., B6 moved big stick from the crook of the Y branch. M brought in a fish at 2:58 p.m. and fed the kids. She stayed for an hour and a half and then left out the back door. She returned at 8:23 p.m. for a minute and then took off out the back door. Video: Just Like Dad 

4/19 - It was quite the day as both kids mini-branched this morning. I say “mini-branched” because many observers will argue as to whether it was actual branching, so I’ll let you be the judge when you view the video. Video: I Believe I Can Fly

4/20 - Mom brings in an early morning fish and lets one of the B’s self-feed. One kid casts a pellet. While one kid eats, the other flaps around the nest until he finally gets the fish. He uses his talon to move it and then his beak. Mom brings in a UFO for dinner. One kid mantles and steals a chunk and the other steals the rest. Mom gets it back and eats a little herself, but she feeds the kids, too. The kids help Mom spread some grass. The kids do some hopping around the nest and branching later in the evening. Mom left the nest at 8:28 p.m. 

April 11 - 15, 2016

The Family (4/11)

4/11 - Dad arrives early with a fish, but the fish is forgotten because of Dad's agitation. He is quite vocal and on alert. Kids hunker down. Things calm down; Mom arrives and stays with the kids all morning. Dad brings another fish in for dinner and one kid steals it. Video: Scared Babies Again

D in with coot at 7:18 a.m., to LB 7:19. M in 7:59 (103:16:48) with squirrel, out BD 8:39 (103:57:20). M in with greenery 8:53 (104:11:03). Cam 1: M out BD 10:12 (42:26). D in FD w/squirrel 1:14 (03:44:44), D out BD 2:17 (04:47:22). M in BD w/fish 7:59 (10:29:28). 

4/14 - D in FD w/coot 8:53 (23:23:34); M in LB 8:57 (23:27:53, to nest 8:58 (23:28:34). D to LB/out 8:59 (23:28:56/23:29:08). M to LB/out 9:17 (23:47:27/36). P lands on right limb behind nest 9:48 (24:18:35), flies off 9:50 (24:20:15). M in FD w/squirrel 2:01 (28:31:47), out BD 2:28 (28:58:41). B7 downed the rest of the squirrel after Mom left. D in FD with headless fish 3:51 (30:21:52), out BD 4:05 (30:35:51). At around 6:13 p.m., B6 (I presume) decided to do jumping jacks and hopped all over the nest; one time even landing on B7.
